From The Amik Valley.

The soil along the Asi is dark and loose enough to mark your hands. Nigella sativa returns to this ground each spring without cultivation. The pods darken through summer and give a dry rattle when the seeds are ready; apparent only to those who inherit the judgement.

What the soil drove into the seed, the body receives, and what meets the tongue first is force before flavour; bitter, peppery, provocative. The same force then deepens, drawing the body into equanimous poise.

Cold-pressing preserves the concentration entire.

Thymoquionone.

Across the plant kingdom, thymoquinone is found only in N. sativa. This molecule is the source of the seeds' force within the body, and its action is systemic; immune and anti-inflammatory activity, freed from constant low-grade mobilisation, becomes precise. The sense of ease never trusted to last gives way to the body assuming its full space with a tempered poise.

Cold-pressed and unrefined, at 2.3% thymoquinone the oil carries what the soil drove into the seed: the full molecular architecture, intact. The body receives it alive.

Should it be consumed alongside food?

As a digestive aid, yes, but it is more readily absorbed on an empty stomach. Food slows and dilutes the uptake.

Is it best to have first thing in the morning or before bed?

Either. Morning on an empty stomach allows the oil to be absorbed without competition. Some prefer it before bed, finding it settles the body into a calmer state overnight. Consistency matters more than timing; pick the moment you will maintain.

Can I apply it to the hair?

Yes. A few drops worked into the scalp after washing calms irritation, discourages dandruff, and conditions the hair without coating it. It will stain light fabrics and pillowcases.

Why does it taste so strong?

The peppery bite and throat warmth are produced by the same compounds that make the oil effective.

A spoonful of honey or a little jam taken alongside it softens the intensity without diminishing the effect.
